Dating A Widower

What are the problems of dating a widower?
Are there any? A widower of 4 years. Is this too soon for a widower to be dating? I have few doubts this person is looking for someone to ultimately have a relationship with, but appears to be rather rushed about meeting people quickly. But how do you match up to someone with whom someone didn’t choose to leave, who will be someone you may feel you have to live up to.Who may always be in the background. Or can it work? Is it different from meeting someone from different circumstances such as single or divorced? Any thoughts thanks Mimi
she had children, now grown up, from previous relationship/marriage, he didn’t have any with her.
Mimi,
Bless your heart. I’m on break from dating a W (widower) right now. We’ve been involved for the last year and a half. He lost his wife shortly before that. So obviously too soon to be getting back involved again but things happened that we never planned. All hindsight now and you know what they say about hindsight, right?!
All I can say is please be careful and guard your heart. And, the things that you may tolerate well when you start dating may make you want to choke him once you’ve fallen in love with him. Make no mistake Ws are VERY easy to love. They know how women think and they know what to say and do. 4 years is a good time to have been managing his grief but it varies from one person to the next.
Things I think that you will need. You will need to be VERY up front with your communication with him. ASK lots of questions and take NOTHING for granted. And do not put his needs ahead of yours. Don’t do it because relationships should be mutually satisfying. Those a just a few of my thoughts.
So if you’re brave and self confident go for it. If you already lack self confidence this is NOT for you, as your confidence will get worse and you will feel miserable. If you have low or moderate self esteem, my suggestion is that you move on to someone who is more available. Good luck.
